Alfred John Cook
Passed away peacefully in Leamington on January 19, 2024, at the Sun Parlor Home at 86 years of age. Dear husband of 58 years to Moyra. Cherished father of Anthony Cook, Samantha Cook and Alexandra Cook. Brother of Catherine Elliott and Anne Smith. Predeceased by his other sisters, Lucy Bailey, Margaret Kennedy and June Swain. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Oh, Dad. Our little family unit said goodbye to Dad today. A man who could figure out where we were based on where the sun was in the sky. A man who could easily answer the question “What’s a polymer?”. A man who could iron the perfectly aligned, razor-sharp trouser crease. Connoisseur of chocolate and hater of broccoli. Dedicated swim-dad who grumbled his way through many drives to 5AM practices, but still got us there on time. Tip-top swim officiant and starter. If I need to remember your voice, I’ll think back to these three words: “Take your marks!”. Self-taught sailor, who loved a good rule book. Gentleman to the end. We love you so much Dad.
Alfred was a career soldier with the Canadian Armed Forces where he met the love of his life in Cyprus. He attended the RMC in Kingston and the University of Toronto. His memory will live in our hearts and minds forever.
A private ceremony will take place at the Kennedy Funeral Home Ltd. (519-776-7378) 128 Talbot St. North, Es. Cremation will follow. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
