Stephen Francis Carroll (May 13, 1941 to January 13, 2024)
On Saturday January 13, 2024 at the age of 82 years or in his 83rd year. Devoted husband of 59 years to Marie (nee Mackler). Loving father to Colleen (Dave Matthews), Joyce (Dave MacDonald), Pat (Debbie), Susan (Stephen Gormley), Bernie (Elaine), and Kathleen (James Thompson). Steve/Grandpa will be sadly missed by his 11 grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, Francis and Marguerite Carroll of Smiths Falls. Brother of Joan (Keith Cassell), Nancy (the late Gerry Cordick), Jean (Gordon Willows), Mike (Diann), and Lenore (Arthur Willows). Brother-in law to the late Joan (late George Casey), Catherine (late Jack Mitchell) (Don Pennett), the late Francis (late Patricia) Mackler, Bill (Lillian) Mackler. Stephen/Dad/Grandpa lived a life devoted to his family. He is fondly remembered by his extended family and friends. Many will remember Steve from his volunteer roles as a Deputy Fire Chief in Elgin, Ontario (one of the original founders of the South Crosby Fire Department) and as a long time member of The Lions Club, Elgin, Ontario. He also served many years on the Parish Council of St Columbanus Church of Elgin, Ontario. Steve worked as a Stationary Engineer at DuPont, then for the Ministry of Environment running Westport and Lansdowne water and sewage and retired in 1991. After retirement, Steve went back to work as a Stationary Engineer at Hershey’s, then to CFB Kingston and Corrections Canada after which he retired a second time. Steve also had a part time farm, enjoyed the outdoors and hunting, and was an avid mechanic. He could fix any tractor or farming equipment and spent countless hours in the shop he built from the ground up. He gave 110% to whatever he put his mind to and would love to talk about current events and politics with his friends and family. Steve and Marie shared many great times with their best friends of over 60 years, Sandra and Mike Freeman. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Columbanus Church, 77 Kingston Street, Elgin on Saturday January 20, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. Rite of Committal, St. Columbanus Cemetery, Elgin followed by a Celebration of Life at the Elgin Lions Club Hall, 19 Pineview Drive, Elgin. AS expressions of sympathy, memorial donations made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
