With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Ivy – a creative, compassionate, and deeply cherished soul whose light touched the lives of many. Ivy was a gender-fluid artist, a passionate music lover, a warm-hearted friend to all animals, a thoughtful listener, and an engaging conversationalist. From an early age, Ivy’s curiosity and talents shone brightly. She delighted in playing sports, gaming, caring for her rescued cats and dogs, and traveling with family. A gifted student, Ivy excelled academically, earning awards in poetry and computer science.
Music was immensely important to Ivy and a source of joy throughout her life. As a
synesthete, Ivy could see sound. She was a skilled guitarist who shredded incredible solos and
enjoyed jamming with her family and friends. Ivy delighted in sharing her profound knowledge
of music which spanned across genres, eras, and geographies. Ivy always had a song
recommendation for those around her.
As a gentle and compassionate soul who admired all things cute and fuzzy, Ivy had at
least one four-legged friend on her lap at all times. She also held a deep appreciation for the
natural world – finding peace on trails along the Niagara Escarpment, at her grandparents’
cottage in Muskoka, and while cruising Hamilton Bay.
A thoughtful philosopher, Ivy thrived in deep conversations and had a dry sense of humour that often left her and those around her chuckling. Ivy was a foodie with a diverse palate. From momos, to saganaki, to masala dosas, to poutine, Ivy found joy around the dinner table.
Ivy is lovingly remembered by her mother Lisa Sabatino, father James Truman, stepmother Jen, sisters Anise and Astara, grandparents Maureen and Wayne, aunts Sarah, Gina, and Lindsay, and many family and friends far and wide, including fur babies Stella, Polly, Bitsy, Enzo, Greta, Baby, and Bambi.
We are blessed for the time Ivy spent with us, and wish her the greatest peace on the
next phase of her journey.
To honour Ivy, pause to embrace the beauty around you, hug your loved ones, cuddle your four-legged friends, explore a new artist or song, and cherish the connections that make life meaningful.
