It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Vivian Anita Hassam (nee Norris) on June 22nd, 2024. Vivian was predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, Martin Hassam (2022). She was the beloved mother of Eric (Sharon), Vicki (Cory) and Chrissy, proud grandmother of Carlie, Robin, Elizabeth, Emily, Pat, Nick and Sydney, and great-grandmother to Zoey and Zachary.
She left us while sleeping peacefully at home in Wasaga Beach, Ontario, after a short battle with new heart issues. She had just turned 90.
Born in Montreal to Victor & Madeleine Norris, Vivian was a dear sister to Barbara (Spina) and Gwen (Travis). Later, the Norris family moved to Terrebonne Heights where Vivian met the love of her life, Marty. They married and started a family.
Vivian lived a full life as a wonderful stay-at-home mom while her children were young and later, as a secretary at Union Carbide and Polygram Records in Montreal. Vivian and Marty enjoyed a long retirement as snowbirds, heading to the southern USA in the winter and visiting family and friends in Canada in the summer.
She loved cooking, gardening, sewing, walking, dancing, swimming, camping and travelling the world, especially Barbados. She was an avid reader until AMD took her sight.
Most of all she loved her family and instilled in them a love of reading and the joy of family gatherings. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Vivian and Marty’s ashes will be buried in the cemetery near Grace Church of the Anglican Parish of Mascouche, North of Montreal.
