Matthews, Tyler Charles William – September 9, 1981 to September 24, 2024
Passed away at Soldier’s Memorial Hospital in Orillia on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, just a few weeks after his 43rd birthday.
Tyler was the youngest son of Bill Matthews and Christina Matthews (nee Armstrong – deceased). He is survived by his father Bill, brother Ira (Linda), nephew Jaxon, niece Emma, grand-mother Edith Armstrong (Lorne – deceased) and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
His mother would often say “You can always tell a Matthews, but you can’t tell them much.” Others would say “Well, Tyler’s Tyler.” Those who knew him know what this means as he was well known to be stubborn, committed and always wanted to do things his way. With this in mind, and a strong level of resolve, he bravely fought against the cancer diagnosis he received in 2022 and never gave up the fight right to the very end.
The family would like to thank Doctor Zachary Veitch and the oncology team at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, as well as the staff at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto and Soldier’s Memorial Hospital in Orillia who provided care over the last two years.
Cremation has taken place. Per Tyler’s wishes, a private family service and interment will be held at First Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Collingwood.
Donations in Tyler’s memory are encouraged and can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
