Passed away at the Campbell House on December 23, 2023 at the age of 67 from a short battle with gastric cancer. Riva Dawson, of Collingwood, was the beloved wife of Leo Dawson for 47 years. Loving mother of Cory Dawson (Miranda) and Jennifer Kennedy (Dave). Cherished grandmother “Bubbie” of Hadley and Eli Dawson and Taylor and Teagan Kennedy. Predeceased by her parents Irving and Rose Handelman and her brother Howard, Riva is survived by her sisters Esther and Frances. Lovingly remembered by her extended family and friends.
Born in Toronto, Riva started working at McDonalds as a teenager and worked her way up the ladder to Administrative Assistant to the Executive Vice President of McDonalds Restaurants. She also did a lot of work with Ronald McDonalds Children’s Charities during her time there. She ended her career in 2000 and made the move to Collingwood with Leo and Jennifer and ventured off to be her own boss at a couple of avenues before actively bookkeeping in the Collingwood area for 20 years.
Per Riva’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and no formal services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Riva to the Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation for Campbell House Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
