Stone, Joan Beverley Hazel (nee Powell) –
Surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday November 15, 2023 at Grove Park Home, Barrie at age 90. Joan of Wasaga Beach was the loving partner of James Bates for 45 years. Loving mother of Kevin Stone and the late Jerry Stone. Cherished grandmother of Jason and Heather. Survived by James’ sons David Bates and Craig Bates. Joan will also be remembered by her sisters and brother, Lynn, Jim, Laurie, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Hazel (nee Devlin) and George Powell, her sisters and brothers Caroline, William, Midge, Richard and Edward.
Joan and Jim had met at work at Value Mall near Dixie Road in 1978, working just down the hall from one another. Joan had worked most of her career as an office manager for Marine Insurance. In her spare time, she took great pleasure in working in her gardens, creating many sketches and drawings at her leisure and planning their many activities. She also loved to play golf and travel.
