Gordon T Byers passed away on November 19 in his 80th year at Collingwood’s G&M Hospital with his wife of 42 years at his side. Gord began his life along with sister Doreen (Hartley) in Sudbury Ontario, a local football and hockey star that he carried through to his Laurier university days.
He successfully completed his CA degree only to realize that the profession did not quite match his effervescent personality. He then moved on to be the youngest manager of Fiat Canada. Gord always had the desire to live on the leading edge and soon took up a new challenge when he joined Grant Tandy advertising Agency where he made his mark in the industry handling the Chrysler Canada Account.
His love of the car industry continued when McLaren McCann agency came knocking to handle the GM Canada dealers. He remained, building the dealer association to be a force to be reckoned with, and acquired many new accounts for the agency. He became president with the agency until his retirement at 60 years old.
Gord’s passion of living life to the fullest included skiing, introducing him to the Collingwood area where he became a weekend resident and subsequently making it his home after retirement. The last 20 years have been filled with many adventures. Golf became his new passion and Florida his favourite place to be. Gord remained his larger than life self throughout. He influenced and made a difference in so many ways, to so many, always encouraging people to be the best they can be. Gord will be remembered for his huge zest for life by his family, and many friends he so generously shared it with. You meet Gord, you never forget him. A beautiful legacy he left behind.
A celebration of Gord’s life will take place in the spring of 2024. Details will be available at Affordable Cremation website as we get closer to that time.
