Douglas Russell Kenwell –
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Russell Kenwell on Friday, June 28th at the age of 57.
Devoted partner & best friend of Vicky Lougheed. Loving & supportive father of Darryl & Devon Kenwell. He is also survived by his step children Kurtis (Sierra) and Nicole (Kurtis). Proud grandpa of Kayden Lougheed, Karter Lougheed and Sutton Ohm. His father Edward, brother Michael (Shelly) and sister Rachel McIntosh. Also survived by his many aunts, cousins and friends.
Doug was predeceased by his mother Linda (nee Lucier, 2016), sister Sheila (2018), and brother-in-law Ernie McIntosh (2023).
Doug was a heavy equipment operator for almost 40 years. His greatest achievement was building golf courses and was always quick to point out which ones he worked on whenever we drove by one.
Sports was Doug’s passion. He was a member of 3 winning Canadian Senior Men’s broomball teams, allowing him to travel throughout Canada. Doug was a talented baseball player & even became an umpire with the South Grey Baseball league.
It was through sports, that Doug made so many lifelong friends. It was these friends that made it possible for Doug’s wishes to be met. When he was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Doug said that he wanted to have a celebration of life while he was still around and a celebration it was. Well over 150 people gathered to share stories, laughs, hugs and tears. Doug had also mentioned that he had never ridden in a convertible. Once again Doug’s amazing friends fulfilled his wish. A procession of over a dozen convertibles stock, muscle and antique vehicles took him on an hour-long cruise.
Doug also loved fishing. His pride & joy was his 16’ Tritan boat. Along with the help of friends, Doug was able to go for 1 more boat ride, wheelchair and all. While on this ride, Doug was telling the driver to “go faster.”
The family of Doug would like to thank and extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone that helped make Doug’s last wishes come true.
Special thanks to the doctors, nursing staff & all the amazing volunteers at the Matthews House Hospice in Alliston.
In Doug’s memory, please consider a donation to Matthews House Hospice, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Cremation has taken place. As per Doug’s wishes, a private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Affordable Cremation Services. To leave a message of condolence or to share a memory of Doug, please visit www.affordablecremation.ca
