Dorothy May Code (née Shreeve), of Collingwood, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 9th, 2024.
Born on October 8th, 1931 in Coniston, Ontario, Dorothy delighted in adventurous activities like skiing, swimming, baseball & fishing along with artistic pursuits of painting and participating in the church choir. She spent summers on Manitoulin Island and teenage years working at Black Rock Lodge. In 1953 she graduated with an RN at Women’s College Hospital and following her adventurous spirit joined TCA (Trans Canada Airlines) as a stewardess. Three years later she married and became a loving mother to 3 daughters. She returned to nursing spending 21 years at Shouldice Hospital. Throughout the years, she remained a committed bridge player, traveller, volunteer, gardener, and athletic. This included supporting her broad interests through the Tournament Park Tennis Club, Craigleith Ski Club, Collingwood Curling Club, being a Brownie Leader and a member of the Richmond Hill Choir among others.
Energetic, spirited and loyal to family and friends, Dorothy was known for her spark and her forthright manner embodied in sincerity.
Dorothy, predeceased by her parents, John and Sara Shreeve, her daughter, Niccy, and siblings Winnifred, Fred and Anne. She is survived by her children Jillian (Dave), and Willow/Andria (Marty), brother Albert Shreeve, grandchildren Colin, Paige, Kai (Cathy), Shael and great grandchildren Iyla Ray and Tobias and many nieces and nephews.
At Dorothy’s request, she has been cremated and there will be no service.
As Dorothy preferred to live life to its fullest, the family would like her to be remembered by what she may leave for others through a donation to the Niccy Code Scholarship, awarded to aspiring female guides through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides.
