January 09, 1954 – November 02, 2023. Daphne Cecile McCullough (nee Shanks) passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on November 2, 2023, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on January 9, 1954, to Olive and Charles Rae Shanks. Daphne was the beloved wife of Donald Alexander McCullough for 44 years. Loving mother to Alexander Rae (Kayla) and Sarah Jane (Arie). She is survived by her siblings, Roger (Pam) and Linda, and her many nieces and nephews.
Daphne’s professional journey led her to a diploma in architectural and interior design from Seneca College. She had an incredibly successful career in project management, but she became most passionate about creating custom kitchens and living spaces for her clients. Showcasing her natural talent for design and colour. She also had a remarkable talent for sewing and quilting. Her natural artistic ability, combined with her eye for bringing colour palettes together allowed her to create some remarkable handmade pieces. She was known for generously sharing her quilting expertise within her community.
An active member of her community, Daphne dedicated her time to various committees, including those at Trinity United Church, as well as Probus By the Bay and Probus of Harbourlands. She developed a love for Bridge through her involvement in local clubs. Daphne embraced the beauty of her local landscapes year-round, often hiking and snowshoeing throughout the Blue Mountains.
Daphne’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the medical team that cared for her, especially Dr. Cornell, Dr. El-Maraghi, Dr. Follwell, Dr. Stevens, and the nursing staff at both Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, RVH Cancer Care Program as well as Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 18, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Collingwood Ski Club. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Daphne’s memory to Trinity United Church or Collingwood General and Marine Hospital MRI Fund.
