TURNER: NANCY ANN
Peacefully at Clinton Public Hospital, on Sunday May 5, 2024, Mrs. Nancy Turner of Clinton in her 84th year. Predeceased by her husband George in 2012 after almost 50 years of marriage, and by her daughter Linda. Survived by her children Barry (Anne Fearnley) of Dorval, Quebec and Bonnie (Declan West) of Mississauga, by four grandchildren Lise Turner, Georges Turner, Lindsay West (Andrew Darimont) and Matthew West, and by her sister Ruth Selves. Predeceased by her parents, John and Pearl McFarlane, sisters Marie McFarlane and Jane McFarlane, sister-in-law Helen Lawson, and brothers-in-law Reg Lawson and Larry Selves.
The third of four sisters, Nancy lived on the McFarlane farm in Stanley Township until the family moved to Clinton in her teen years. As a young person, she enjoyed playing cards and being with people. After high school, she worked in London for a time and made happy memories with her housemates there.
She married George in 1962 and moved to the family farm in Tuckersmith Township, starting busy days raising a family and working on the farm. She much preferred driving a tractor or using her chain saw to working in the house but froze and preserved huge amounts of food from their garden every year. Sundays were for church, followed by visits with relatives or long drives in the country. Nancy was also the neighbourhood poet, writing many entertaining verses for neighbours’ anniversaries.
After George’s passing, Nancy moved to Clinton but still went to the farm to mow grass and watch the fields and flowers. In Clinton, she enjoyed visiting her neighbours and their dogs, doing jobs at Clinton United Church, and playing countless Euchre, Pepper and other games.
As Nancy wished, a private family service will be held. Interment at Clinton Cemetery. Friends are invited to greet the Family at Clinton United Church, 105 Ontario Street, Clinton on Saturday May 11, 2024, from 2 -4 p.m. to share stories and happy memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Clinton United Church, One Care, or Clinton Public Hospital would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
