COOKE: Bee
Mrs. Reatha Bernice (Bee) Cooke (nee Grigg) passed away peacefully and in the presence of family on November 20, 2023 at Huronview Home, Clinton, in her 102nd year.
Bee was predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, Kenneth Charles Cooke and her two sons Steven Charles and Kenneth Rolfe Cooke. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and David White and her daughters-in-law, Barbara Crawford and Gloria Cooke. Grandma Bee will be missed by her loving grandchildren Carolyn (Mike) Edmonds, Lydia (Bruce) McCuaig, Reuben (Lisa) Cooke, Ryan Crawford, Brennan (Ray) Greidanus, Krista (Jamie) Fairles and Leigh White. She will also be remembered by her 13 cherished great grandchildren Jessy, Kai, Jasmine, Ainsley, Rory, Skylar, Avery, Jackson, Cohen, Isaac, Caelen, Carter and Adelaide. Bee was also predeceased by her eight siblings and will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.
Bee was an inexhaustible force in her community. She began her professional life as a nurse at Clinton hospital, then shortly after their marriage, she and her husband Ken took over Cooke’s Florist. Together they ran “the shop” for over 40 years, becoming leaders in the Clinton business community and founding the Central Huron BIA along the way. Bee continued to do the spring transplanting for many more years after her supposed retirement. She also added politics to her accomplishments, serving as a member of both town and county council, the school board and was ultimately elected Reeve of Clinton. She was a steadfast member of the Clinton branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, as part of the ladies auxiliary and carrying the flag in every remembrance day parade.
Bee was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved. Her house burst at the seams on every holiday, her days were full of euchre, coffee at Bartliff’s, meat draws and other community events. Her door was literally always open to anyone who wanted to stop by. When she moved into Huronview, a row of chairs quickly became a permanent fixture in the hallway outside her room and the chairs were always occupied. She told the best jokes and she had the best laugh. Bee made our lives better and brighter and she leaves a hole no one else can ever fill.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 25 between 2 and 4 p.m., with remembrances shared at 3 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 140, 95 Kirk St, Clinton, ON. Donations to the Clinton Legion in honour of Bee would be greatly appreciated.
