Peacefully at the Chatham-Kent Hospice on Thursday October 12th, Mrs. Norma R. Wright of Chatham passed away in her 98th year. Cherished daughter of the late John and Vera Heil. Norma was born in Leamington, raised in Tilbury. Beloved wife of the late Allen Wright 1982.
Loving mother of Glen (Susan) of St. Thomas, and Betty A. Kobylka (Paul) of Chatham. Proud grandmother to Cory Wright, Tanya Kobylka, Chad Kobylka, Beckie Kobylka Malvar and Kelly Watts, and great grandchildren who called her Grandma Norma. She was loved and will be missed by her many nieces and nephews who constantly stayed in touch with her.
Predeceased by her brothers Jim Heil 20 years old 1944, buried at Brookwood Military Cemetery Surrey England, Ben Heil of Dunnville, Ken Girardin of Windsor, Earl Heil of Es, and Glen Heil of Tilbury, and by her sisters Dorothy Cavanagh of Tilbury, Edna Hillman of Leamington, Helen Bacon of Belle River, and an infant sister Betty.
As a teenager in Tilbury (at the age of 16), Norma was one of the Rosie Riveters, she worked in a factory there putting rivets in ammunition boxes during WWll. Norma ended up moving to Chatham with her long-time friend and partner Jack who predeceased in 2003, she remained in the same home until she was 95 and still driving. From there she moved to an assisted living home where she made new friends and loved playing Euchre with friends in the evening and Bingo in the afternoon. Norma belonged to the Red Hats of Chatham and sang her heart out at quite few functions with the ladies. She was a long-time resident of Ridgetown where she worked at the Ridgetown High School Cafeteria and retired after 18 years. Prior to working at the high school, she worked at the Walker store in Ridgetown. Norma was also a long-time member of the Eastern Star in Ridgetown.
Norma loved to play cards with her group of ladies weekly right up into her 90’s bingo and the odd casino run. Mom was often pretty lucky, and numerous times she would call me at home from the late Bingo and say she had won the jackpot. She enjoyed many trips to Florida with her friend of many years Marian and a few other lady friends that would join them. She loved life and to have fun, she always loved to be around people and her family.
“We hope Mom is playing Bingo somewhere and winning the biggest jackpot”.
