Obituary of Joanne Verhoog
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joanne Verhoog who passed away on January 23, 2024 at Riverview Gardens.
Joanne was the daughter of late Harry Verhoog (1975) and late Ann Verhoog (1998).
Beloved sister to Joseph Verhoog (Violet). She will be greatly missed by her best friend, Ineke Goossen (Adrian).
Joanne is Survived by many cousins and one aunt. Joanne was a loving aunt to Violet’s daughters, Dr. Maryanne Pearce (Austin Lawrence), Janette Pearce (Ross Bolton) and Barbara Heathcote (Joe Heathcote) and her grandchildren, Kadri Lawrence (Dani), Joven Lawerence (Megan), Finn Bolton, Jack Heathcote and Seth Heathcote.
Joanne graduated with a nursing degree from The Public General Hospital, Chatham, ON in 1964 and then went on to graduate from The University of Western Ontario with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Joanne taught nursing at St. Clair College until retirement. She was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, Chatham and was one of the first female members to become an elder.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 25 from 7:00pm – 9:00pm at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St. Chatham, ON. A Funeral service will begin on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Reverend Mike Maroney of First Presbyterian Church to conduct the service. Interment to follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery following the service.
