It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that the family of Eric DeSchinkel wish to share that he passed away peacefully at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance at age 67 after his courageous battle with cancer on October 30th.
Eric was born in Chatham on July 24, 1957 shortly after his parents Tania and Daniel DeShinkel emigrated from Belgium. He is survived by his wife Kathy DeSchinkel (Bittman) and his amazing son Danny, his sister and brother- in- law Darlene and Roberto Validiva and their children Mateo, Celina and Simon Yanez ; and sister in law Hillary LaRose and her children Jackie, Micheal and his partner Denise, great nieces, nephews and his Goddaughter Murissa Bourdeau. Waiting in heaven for him are his nieces Nicole Martin, Lindsey Martin, and Stephanie LaRose.
Eric lived a life of high energy, adventure, and fun. He had many friends, most remaining with him for his entire life. He was a master finish carpenter who loved to design, build, and carve. He left a huge mark in the community for the many people he worked for, and his family home and cottage.
He had very good memories of all the times spent with the best of friends at a local spot called “The Bush” as well as years of boating with friends. He recently found a bar that he had built some time ago to add to his man cave, where he spent this year designing it and hanging out with his best friends.
Eric loved to travel with his wife and son and told us that these were some of his favourite life moments. He traveled to Belgium and many islands in the Caribbean, Roatan, Jamaica, Curacao and Antigua. He loved to ski and snowboard and went on trips to BC and Quebec. He snowboarded every winter with his son Danny starting at age 5. He loved his old Corvette and recently purchased a new one. Eric liked to go fast and flashy.
Eric loved trail riding and his late horses Bear, Gunner and current horse Dior and was a member of High Riders horse club. He loved his dog Clarence and Ricky kitty and past dogs Bennie, Coca and of course lots of other kitties too.
Eric loved his wife and family and was very proud of his son Danny. He is an amazing, intelligent young man. Some of Eric’s last words he mentioned that his son Danny, ‘ was the most kind person he knew.’ He appreciated the care and support his family provided when he was bravely fighting his illness, it was not easy. He told us that he would always be behind us.
Good bye my love Eric we will see you on the other side. We will feel you all around us forever.
Cremation has take place. A Celebration of life for Eric will be held Saturday, November 9th, from 1-5 pm at Hidden Hills Golf Club, (25393 St Clair Rd, Dover Centre, ON). James Mac Neil will provide a tribute speech, prayer and blessings for Eric at 3 pm. Let us gather and remember him together.
Donations can be directed to Canadian Cancer Society and PAWR.
