Edward J Kucera, of Chatham, passed away on Tuesday October 24, 2023, while surrounded by his loving family and companion, Jeanne Staddon. Born in Chatham 85 years ago, son of the late Adolf and Elizabeth Kucera. Husband of the late Sylvia Kucera (nee Kemp). Father of Rick and Donna, Lisa and Mike, and Lynn and Pat. Grandfather of Lee, Jana, and Logan, Brett (Paige) and Jake (Anjali), and Cheyanne (Ryan), Riley, and Caleb. Great-grandfather of Zoey. Brother of the late Adolf and Margaretha Kucera, brother-in-law of Maryanne and Mike Killby. Ed was loved and will be missed by several nieces and nephews.
Ed retired at the age of 51 after 33 years with Bell Canada. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting ducks on Lake St. Clair with his brother, Adolf, for over 60 years. His beloved dogs through the years: Queenie, Tobi, Yogi, Blackie 1 and 2 were always by his side. He also enjoyed spending time fishing, bowling, playing baseball in his younger years, and tending to his vegetable garden. Ed was an avid reader and particularly loved Ducks Unlimited and Outdoor Life. He was a member of the Rondeau Rod and Gun Club, The Royal Canadian Legion, Ducks Unlimited, and the Delta Waterfowl Club. Regular breakfasts and visits with Bell friends over beers solving the problems of the world were some of his favourite pastimes. Ed cherished memories of visiting family in the Czech Republic and being an inductee, along with his son, Rick, in the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame.
Visitation will take place on Friday November 10, 2023, from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at Life Transitions located at 397 McNaughton Ave West in Chatham. A Celebration of Life will follow in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated.
