It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Frank Butler announce his passing on December 11th, 2023 at the age of 88.
He will be sadly missed by his best friend and partner Eve Myers. He leaves behind 3 daughters, Cindy Thomas (Randy), Karen Labadie (Jeff) and Kim Breedon (Don), two step children Adam Myers and Angela Myers, 5 grandchildren Jeremy, Meghan, Jake, Morgan and Nathan, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Doug is survived by his brother Al. He is predeceased by his parents Fred and Violet Butler, and siblings Lloyd (Kaye), Donald (Doris), Bill, Bob and Shirley (Doug). He is also predeceased by his “partner in crime” Bib (Seville Sterling).
Doug started his early career as a milkman in a horse and buggy. He later went on to work in a factory for several years making many friends, then a few years with the municipality of Chatham Kent.
But Doug’s one love was the outdoors. He was fortunate enough to get hired on at Bradley Farms as a hunting guide, where he made many lasting friendships and memories. There wasn’t a waterfowl that he couldn’t identify! He met many different people from all walks of life, and always had stories to tell and gifts to bring home.
Doug was a talented woodworker, and if you needed something made or fixed, he would be able to create or repair it for you, often better than it was when you brought it to him. He could create the most intricate detail on the smallest surface, but also construct an entire kitchen.
Above all, he was a loving and devoted partner, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be so deeply missed by all whose path he crossed.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday December 16th, 2023 at Smitty’s on Grand Avenue West, Chatham, between 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
