Leoncio “Jun” Avilla, 86, of Galt, Cambridge, passed away peacefully at home on November 29, 2024. He was surrounded by his beloved wife, Purita, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage, along with his three sons and their spouses: Danilo and Gracia, Alfredo and Luisa, and Ernesto and Monika.
Jun also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren and their spouses: Michael and Coreen, Danilo Jr. and Christina, Andrew and Kelly, Alyssa and Mat, and Amanda and Adam; as well as his great-grandchildren: Jayda, Everleigh, Avery, Morgan and Emmett.
Born in 1938 in Cavite City, Philippines, to Leoncio Avilla Sr. and Valeriana Itong Avilla, Jun was the eldest of 13 siblings. He immigrated to Canada in 1973, with his family joining him in 1974. Settling in Cambridge, Ontario, Jun faced the challenges of being an immigrant in the 1970s with remarkable courage.
Jun and Purita dedicated their lives to providing their sons with opportunities for education and a fulfilling life. Their dream was realized as they nurtured a loving family.
Jun will be fondly remembered for his unconditional love, kindness, and generosity. Jun had a passion for carpentry and was known for his ability to fix anything. His intelligence and strong will were complemented by his warm smile and willingness to help others. Family and friends will never forget him saying “okey-doke.”
Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Ambrose Parish at 210 South Street, Cambridge, Ontario N1R 2P4 (Phone: 519-621-2013). A memorial visitation will take place at Corbett Funeral Home, located at 95 Dundas St N, Cambridge, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, from 6 PM to 9 PM.
