It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing Helen Calder (nee Mitchell) June 28, 2024 at Innisfree Hospice, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Helen is survived by her beloved husband James (Jimmy) of 59 years, loving mother of Steve (Patti), Stuart (Debbie) and James; loving Grandma to Sam, Leia and Camden, all of whom she loved so deeply and was so very proud.
Helen, was the second oldest of three siblings born to Sophie and Albert Mitchell, was loving sister to Mary (d), Frances, Albert (d). Sister-in-law to Tommy (d) and Pat Calder, George and Elizabeth Calder and Sandra and David Wallace all of Scotland. Auntie Helen will be missed by her many nieces and nephews.
Helen was born in Hamilton, Scotland in 1943 and married her beloved Jimmy in 1965. They immigrated to Canada in 1974 and in her heart, Scotland was always home.
Helen was still actively involved as a Bookkeeper with LC Pipeline Hydrant Services a business she shared with Jimmy, and in her free time she tended to her beautiful gardens and enjoyed many long chats through Facebook with her dearest sister Frances and family in Scotland. Helen was the loved matriarch of our family. We are heartbroken at her loss but are grateful for the long life she enjoyed, the fun, love and guidance she showed to our family will carry us.
We thank Cambridge Memorial Hospital (C4) and Innisfree Hospice staff for providing compassionate and exemplary care to Helen and our family in her final days.
In keeping with Helen’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. In memory of Helen and in lieu of flowers, donations to Innisfree Hospice Kitchener who provided such wonderful and compassionate care, would be appreciated by her family.
