Hubert, Norman James
June 17, 1949 – October 6, 2024
It is with love and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Norman James Hubert at Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton on October 6, 2024 with his son Phil by his side following a short illness of pancreatic cancer in his 76th year. Beloved husband for 24 years to Mary Elizabeth (nee Griffey), his “brown-eyed girl”. Predeceased by his parents Dorothy Jean (Mitchell) and Edward “Ted” Andrew Hubert; Parent in-law Horace William and Nellie Muriel “Babe” Griffey and nephews Randy and Grant McTear. Survived by brother Ron Hubert and sister Dorothy Hopkins (nee Hubert). Predeceased by brothers Bill, Harry, Bob and Alvin McTear, as well as brother-in-laws Robert Smith and William Griffey. Loving father of Matthew (Victoria), Phil, Steven (Rachel), and Jennifer (Brad). Loving Grandfather to Alice, Samantha, Christine, Claudia, and Robert. Survived by sister-in-laws Shirley McTear, Joan McTear, Joyce Campbell, Marlene Wade, Margaret Bernhardt (twin sister of Mary Griffey), and Lori Smith Griffey(†Robert). Much loved Uncle and Great Uncle to many nieces and nephews and their children. Loving Godparent to nephew Mark Hubert.
Norm was a retired member of Local UA67 Pipefitters and Plumbers, a trade he was very proud of. One year while at Simcoe fair, Mary purchased a T-Shirt that read “Of course, I don’t look busy, I did it right the first time”. When Norm wore the T-Shirt to work the next day, Mary had to make another trip to Simcoe Fair to buy 8 more T-Shirts.
Norm treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren, enjoying music by Gordon Lightfoot, cross word puzzles and Si-Fi. Norm became a reluctant fan of Mary’s Nascar races cheering on his favorite driver #22 Joey Logano. Every Friday night, Norm regained full control of the T.V. remote, when Mary and her sister Margie attended dirt track races at Ohsweken Speedway.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. A. L. Gunning, family physician for many years, Dr. S. Hotte, prostate oncologist and staff at Juravinski C-3 Oncology ward during Norm’s 4 day stay.
As per Norm’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial church service will be held Thursday, October 17, 2024 at St Paul’s Anglican Church, 27 Orkney Street East, Caledonia, Ontario N3W1K9, at 11:00 am with Reverend Jann Brooks officiating, assisted by Reverend Deacon Nancy McBride. Interment of ashes in Caledonia following service, followed by a reception in St. Paul’s Parish Hall.
I lieu of flowers, donations to St Paul’s Anglican Church would be appreciated.
May our memories of Norm be a blessing to us all. Always, forever my love -Norm- the price of great love is great sorrow.
