In Celebration of
Waldemar Eggers
May 6, 1936 –
January 26, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Waldemar (Eddie) Werner Eggers, a beloved husband, father, Opa, brother, and uncle. Eddie passed away peacefully after a brief time at CAMA Woodlands Long Term Care Home in Burlington, Ontario on Friday, January 26, 2024.
Eddie was born on May 6, 1936, in Hamburg-Bergedorf, Germany, and immigrated to Hamilton at age 19. His life was a testament to the rewards of hard work, love, and devotion to his family. Eddie was a loving husband to Gudrun Eggers, a devoted father to Doris Eggers (Tom Hamilton) and Ben Eggers (Janine Maguire), a cherished Opa to Roxanne, Zachary (Missy), Mason, Chloe (Mason and Chloe’s mother Alison Montgomery), and Benjamin Jr.
Eddie was predeceased by his parents Mina and Waldemar Eggers and siblings Erwin, Henry, Friedericke, and Alfred and is survived by siblings, Jürgen and Edith, and many nieces and nephews.
Eddie’s commitment to his family was unwavering, and he found immense joy in the simple moments spent with his loved ones. Eddie was fortunate to enjoy close to 30 years of retirement after a fulfilling 35-year career as a dedicated serviceman with Union Gas. During his career he was known for his dedication to excellence and customer satisfaction, as well as conveying his knowledge and skills to his many trainees.
Outside of work, Eddie found joy in nature year-round, whether hiking on the Bruce Trail with his best friend and wife, Gudrun and their trusted dog Sasha (and in the earlier years, Fritz), creating cherished memories together alpine skiing at their beloved chalet which he and Gudrun built together, or creating a beautiful, lush landscape on their property.
Family and friends are invited to join in a visitation, funeral service, and celebration of life at Bay Gardens Funeral Home in Burlington on January 31st. The celebration of Eddie’s wonderful life will provide an opportunity for those who knew and loved Eddie to come together, share memories, and find solace in each other’s company.
The family would like to recognize and thank the staff at CAMA Woodlands Long Term Care Home for their tremendous dedication, caring, and support and the warmth that they provided to Eddie and his family. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Eddie’s honour to the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA (hbspca.com).
Eddie Eggers will be remembered for his perpetual smile, sense of humour, kindness, grace and his unwavering love for family, respect for nature, kindness to animals, and the positive influence he had on those around him. May he rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that will be cherished in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
