In Celebration of
Elizabeth Bellavia
September 27, 1934 –
September 25, 2024
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Elizabeth Bellavia on September 25th, 2024. The matriarch of our family, ‘Queen E’ passed away just two days short of her 90th birthday when she entered into heaven to be with her loved ones.
Elizabeth will be profoundly missed by her devoted daughter Michelle and loving son Jason and his partner Susan Jane who was like a daughter to her. She was adored and cherished by her granddaughters, Zara and Mirabella, who thought the world of their Grandma. Elizabeth is predeceased by her loving husband, Dino, whom she was married to for 44 wonderful years. She is also predeceased by her parents Thomas and Angelina Hart and her dear brother, Richard.
Born in Colchester, England in 1934, Elizabeth faced many challenges throughout her life which made her resilient and strong in character. These included living through World War II and surviving two bouts of tuberculosis and a car accident before the age of 21. Elizabeth immigrated to her beloved Canada and settled in Hamilton with her family to seek a better life in 1958. One evening at a wedding, she met a handsome Sicilian who played in the band. He later became her beloved husband and together they raised three children on the east Mountain. Elizabeth will be sadly missed by many extended family members including sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins here and in Italy, Australia and the UK. Over the years, she developed friendships with several incredible women whom we are grateful to for being in her life. They include: Lisa Hagan, Barbara Tomlinson, Maureen Bellavia and Cheryl Gzik who would often check in on Mom for a cup of tea and a chat.
Elizabeth was a selfless, compassionate woman who always put her family first. She ran a tight ship and made sure everyone was looked after before herself. Motherhood was her joy in life as she was her children’s and grandchildren’s number one supporter and practical advice giver. She modelled kindness and empathy for others by being a lifelong donor to UNICEF and other charities. She was an avid reader of thousands of books over the years and a champion bowler.
