Melnick, Doreen Jean (nee Brabbs), May 13, 1934 – January 19, 2024.
It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Doreen Melnick in her 90th year at Hamilton General Hospital. Lovingly remembered by her children Debbie (Jim), Sandra (Fred), Richard, and Wayne (Naomi). Cherished by her grandchildren Stacey (Avi), Kevin (Kelly), Sarah (Dustin), Eric, Brynn, Olivia, and Ethan, as well as her great-grandchildren Liam, Malia, Aria, and Thomas. Reunited with her devoted husband of 57 years, Joseph (2013) and her treasured grandsons, Aaron and Devin (1999). Dear sister of the late Wilfred Johnston, the late Eileen Bailey, and the late Roland Brabbs.
Doreen loved her family beyond measure. Nothing brought her more joy than having her family around her. She treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whatever the event, whether figure skating, dance, hockey, soccer, karate, or school events, Doreen would proudly be there. Her focus on family brought everyone together weekly for Sunday roast beef dinners with all the trimmings and of course, birthdays were celebrated for each family member with homemade chocolate cake. Doreen was an avid reader and always had a book on the go. There was often a jigsaw puzzle in progress on the dining room table during the winter months, and in the summer, she enjoyed her garden. Doreen was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Good Samaritan who stayed with her until paramedics arrived, Hamilton Paramedic Services, and ER staff at Hamilton General Hospital for their care and compassion.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 28th from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton. A Celebration of Doreen’s Life will take place on Monday, January 29th at 11:00 a.m. at Peoples Church, 510 Mohawk Road West, Hamilton Burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery, Burlington.
