On Tuesday June 4th 2024, the Lord received our husband, father, Pake, and great grandfather Robert Gerardus Brinkert in his 91st year. Our hearts are deeply saddened as we will miss his quick wit, mischievous grin, and endless humour. We take comfort that he is with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in whom he put his trust. Bob loved farming, animals, and all things nature. His passion was his garden which from seed to harvest, gave him much joy. Being of a fun social nature, Bob could be found jovially conversing with many people throughout his life. A man of character and intelligence, he was knowledgeable on many subjects. In his life and death, he inspired us all with his strength and positivity.
Bob leaves behind his wife of 62 years Anne (nee Straatsma) to whom he was a loving husband, his four children: Ingrid (Wilfred) Schilstra, Robert (Rosalie) Brinkert, Caroline Brinkert (Tim Standen), and Elaine (Allen) De Kroon. Beloved Pake to 12 grandchildren: Steven (Evelyn) Schilstra, Phil (Charlene) Schilstra, Emma (Joe) Macleod, Leanne (Phil) Korten, Sarah (Calvin) Hessels, Stephanie (Jason) Tilstra, Robyn (TJ) Sonneveld, Collin Brinkert ┼ , Carina Bos, Calvin Bos, Faith De Kroon, Paige De Kroon, and 20 great-grandchildren.
Bob was also loved by brothers Hans ┼ (Lien) Brinkert, Kees (Madeline) Brinkert, as well as by Anne’s siblings Ed (Shirley ┼ ) (Rita) Straatsma, Marrie (Peter ┼) VanBrederode, Larry (Sally) Straatsma, Ken Straatsma, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received for visitation at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 117 Windsor Dr., Brockville on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 1:00-2:30 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life held in the church at 3:00 p.m. A livestream link to the church’s YouTube channel is in the service details section below.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care team at the Brockville General Hospital for their exceptional and compassionate care in his last days. In memory of Bob, donations to the Palliative Care unit at BGH would be greatly appreciated, as well as to CAIRN Christian School and Dunnville Christian School, where his great-grandchildren attend.
