With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother Charlene Sommerville on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at the Sherwood Park Manor. She was 84 years old. Charline grew in in Madawaska, Maine. The youngest of two children she was predeceased by her parents Natalie Thibodeau and Gerard Pelletier as well as her older brother Myles Pelletier.
As well as a loving mother and grandmother she was an avid athlete excelling in basketball and swimming.
After graduating high school, Charlene enrolled at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. It was here she met Ray Sommerville (predeceased in 2008). They married in 1969 and had three children Dawn, Michael and Bill. In 1969 Charlene began teaching at the Thousand Island Secondary School. She became very popular with both staff and students. Too many students she is fondly remembered as “Mom”. During her time at TISS, she coached basketball, volleyball, and track. She helped to develop a Cheerleading Squad and introduced a Creative Dance program that was very popular.
Charlene leaves behind her three children Dawn Sommerville-Picotte and her husband Michael; their two children Quinn and Michaela all of Brockville, Michael Sommerville and his wife Mary Griffin and their two children Dana Rae and Hartley of Ottawa and Bill Somerville and his son Chance of California.
