Obituary of Alistair Henderson Burnett
Alistair was born In Aberdeen, Scotland in 1947. He and his family arrived in Canada when Alistair was five years old and settled in the Niagara area. When he was nineteen he joined the RCMP out west, returning to Ottawa years later to train for the Musical Ride. After two years on the ride Alistair was stationed in Toronto with E special. He earned his pilot licence at Toronto Island.and met his future wife Karen, a flight instructor at King City airport, north of Toronto. Karen went on to become a professional pilot. Alistair and Karen were married thirty-nine years.
Alistair was a man of many talents. He was an all round athlete and he worked as a lumberjack on the Queen Charlotte Islands, training that served him well when he built his own log house years later. He not only flew airplanes, he built his own aircraft. He drove his motorcycle around the world and later sailed his boat across the Atlantic and many oceans and waterways. When Karen was based in Ottawa, Alistair taught himself to play the bagpipes and when they moved to Lyndhurst, he joined the Brockville Police Pipes and Drums band, later becoming the Piper and Drum Major, which he truly loved. He developed several waterfront properties north of Lansdowne, now occupied with beautiful homes and wonderful families.
Alistair loved his cars and trucks, rebuilding many, but he especially loved his Z06 corvette that Karen bought him on his seventieth birthday for successfully completing chemo and stem cell replacement treatments for multiple myeloma. He remained in remission, undergoing continuous maintenance treatments for the rest of his life. Sadly, it was other health issues and complications that plagued him until the end. He passed away at home, in his sleep, with a little smile on his face.
Alistair was a good friend to everyone who knew him and always helped anyone who asked. He loved and was loved by his many friends and relatives around the globe. He will be missed by all, including his two dogs, Ava and Peter. The world lost one of the good ones.
As per Alistair’s wishes, cremation has taken place with a Celebration of Life taking place at a later date. In memory of Alistair, donations to the SPCA would be appreciated. Barclay Funeral Home 1033 Prince St., Lansdowne entrusted with the arrangements. Messages of Condolences can be sent online at www.barclayfuneralhome.com.
