REYNOLD ERNEST OSWALD RIEGERT
Born Reynold Ernest Oswald Riegert on August 12, 1930 in Danzig. Reyn went home to be with Jesus on January 19, 2024 @ 2:40pm from his room at Branson Rehab Center (North York General Hospital) with his daughter, Gloria, and former daughter-in-law, Jan, by his side. Reynold passed peacefully & was escorted into heaven joyfully only 7 months & 8 days following his wife’s death on June 11, 2023.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother & uncle , Reyn is survived by his 3 children & their spouses/former spouses, 14 grandchildren/step-grands & 29 great-grandchildren/step-greats!
Reyn’s family emigrated from Germany to Quebec, Canada in 1939 during WW2. Building a new life in a new country was extremely challenging & he grew up seeing the importance of close family relationships, especially in the midst of hardship. He also was brought up with a strong work ethic & worked faithfully all his life to provide for his family & to help others who needed his skills.
Reynold worked in a variety of companies during his employment years including Bell Canada, the Montreal and Canadian Stock Exchange, Univac, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, 100 Huntley Street & finally in his own business. At home he liked to invent new mechanical gadgets, tool (engrave) leather, play his violin, hunt deer, moose, grouse & duck, travel, enjoy sports & hiking outdoors, playing games & building puzzles … especially with his family.
Family was always very important to Reyn, next to Jesus. Vacations included many visits to extended family and friends, time at the cottage, road trips and camping. He could always be counted on to be at Christmas gatherings, family retreats, and special life events such as weddings, funerals, birthdays and anniversaries. Whenever family gathered he was there.
Involvement in Christian ministry was also important to Reyn. He served the Lord in many church fellowships over the years as a faithful member, on Church Boards, as a Deacon, teaching, driving the Sunday School bus, singing in the choir, or engaging in prison ministry outreach. He was a charter member of Malvern Christian Assembly (church plant from Scarboro Gospel Temple) and a Welcome Desk/Greeter at Agincourt Pentecostal Church.
In retirement, Reyn did not slow down. He just put on a new set of tires! He & his wife, Gerry, became members of the Gideons International & were involved in distributing Bibles all over the world, including in their communities at home. For 20+ years they spread the written Word of God in as many places as possible. Reynold was also the family & community ‘handyman’ for any building or repair jobs needed. He loved to work with his hands as long as he possibly could do so.
Throughout his life, Reynold enjoyed sharing his love for & faith in Jesus Christ with those who would listen, even if some were reluctant to hear. He desired to lead others to their Savior & rejoiced to see them grow in their relationship with Jesus. His greatest desire was that we would all know the love of our heavenly Father for us. In his last moments with us, Reyn was graced to fix his eyes on Jesus & trust that HE IS the Perfecter of our faith. Yes & Amen!
John 15:9-11 Heb 12:1,2
