It is with much sadness that we say goodbye to Peter, son of Thomas and Grace Gallagher. He died peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of November 23, 2024 at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ontario at the age of 91. He will be deeply missed by his wife Maureen. They had just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on November 5th while Peter was in the ICU at Ross. He will also be greatly missed by his children, Sean (Ann), Siobhan, Roderick (Linda), 14 grandchildren Samantha (Andrew), Shannon (Bryan), Colleen (Mickey), Thomas (Jessica), Patrick (Taila), Kathleen (Cein), Fiona (Mateo), Sebastian, Simon (Becky), Daniel, Maria, Eva, Ella, Elizabeth and 13 great-grandchildren, Veronica, Vanessa, Noah, Nicholas, Brinnley, Silas, Kiera, Dominic, Lorelei, Jana, Wolfgang, Sytska, Sibilla and also by his older sister Amelia with whom he spent many hours remembering their lives together in England during World War II.
Peter loved being with people and was loved by many who will sorely miss him and his witty conversation.
Peter has had a varied life with many interests and diverse vocations including that of soldier, Special Education teacher, Factory worker and insurance agent. He and his wife have built boats, driven extensively in North America, collected antique firearms, and have for many years competed in Cowboy Action matches in
both Canada and the U.S.A.. Of recent years he has written and had published 12 novels as well as over 20 articles for The Journal of the Royal Artillery. His credits include The Pinfire Lady series of Western novels and articles on the history and use of artillery.
Peter was born in England, emigrated to Canada in 1959 where he met his wife Maureen at a New Year’s Eve party and proposed a week later. They have lived in Woodville, Ontario for the past 37 years.
The visitation will be held at Mangan Funeral Home, Beaverton on Thursday November 28th from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Funeral service will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Woodville on Friday November 29th at 10:30 A.M. Reception to follow at the Kirkfield Lions Hall.
In lieu of flowers, in memory of Peter, please make a donation to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ontario. Online condolences are welcome at www.manganfuneralhome.com
