Harold’s Obituary
MUISE, Joseph Harold
October 2, 1951 – December 11, 2023
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Joseph Harold Muise, known as Joe to some, Harold to most and “Mousie” to anyone that knew him when he was very young, which stuck with him his whole life but he didn’t mind
He always told his family it was because he had written Mouse instead of Muise on the school blackboard when he was a child!
Harold was born in Yarmouth on Oct. 2, 1951 to the late Joseph Robert “Bob” Muise and Blanche (Surette) Muise. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He worked at Dominion Textiles until they closed, then tried several jobs, including delivering flowers for Crosby’s Florist until they closed in 2006, and his last job before retiring was working as a security guard at Yarmouth Regional Hospital, making many friends along the way. He was a great people person, being able to talk to anyone at any time about anything at all!
In 2013 Harold moved to Calgary, Alberta with his wife to be closer to his only daughter, Amanda and beloved granddaughter Layla, who he had a special bond with.
After being diagnosed with ideopathic pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema almost five years ago, and in the last six months, lung cancer, his battle with these deadly diseases was lost at home in Calgary at the age of 72.
He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend of 45 years, Esther (Churchill); son, Ryan, Yarmouth; daughter, Amanda and granddaughter Layla, both of Calgary; nephew, Vincent Forrestall, Aberdeen, Cape Breton; niece, Angela Forrestall, Halifax; great niece, June Fitzgerald, Sanford; and great niece, Jenna Forrestall, Baddeck; and his uncle Leslie Muise. Harold also leaves behind cousins, too many to name but they know who they are and he loved each and every one of you.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Carol Forrestall, Betty Muise and Diane Muise; and brother-in-law Vincent Forrestall.
Cremation has taken place at Foster’s Garden Chapel in Calgary. The family are taking Harold home for a funeral mass at St. Ambrose Co-Cathedral in Yarmouth and burial in The Port Maitland & Beaver River Cemetery, which will be at a later date. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth will be handling these arrangements. Donations in Harold’s memory may be made to the Canadian Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
