Ernie’s Obituary
SAMMS, Joseph Ernest “Ernie” – Age 78 of Deerfield, passed away peacefully with family by his side on December 27, 2023 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Yarmouth on November 7, 1945, he was a son of the late Burton Samms and Vivian (Muise) Smith.
Ernie was a carpenter by trade. He was extremely mechanically inclined and able to fix anything from a toaster to a car engine. He had an outgoing personality, and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Ernie was a kind man and would never hold a grudge. He loved animals, and was often caught feeding his cats and dog food from his own plate. In his younger years, Ernie enjoyed music and dancing. Later in life, he was a wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren.
Ernie is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Samms; children, Dawn Cleary; Troy Samms; Darren Samms (Carolann); Dennena Samms; stepsons, Mark Outhouse (Melissa); Jason Outhouse (Tammy); Collin Outhouse (Rachael); Donnie Murphy (Jean Marie); grandchildren, Cody, Kyle, Amber, Alyssa, Taylor, Tiffany, Alex, Tyrese, Jackson and Declan; siblings, Johnny Samms (Charlene); Darlene LeBlanc (Edward); Claudette Doucette (Shawn); Vaughn Samms (Jennifer); Jason Samms (Brandy); many nieces and nephews.
Ernie was predeceased by his grandson, Nigel Surette; sister Gail Surette (Tony).
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 in Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Yarmouth, Father Henry Smolenaars officiating. Family flowers only please.
