Marie Skaarland, age 83 of Overton Yarmouth Co. NS passed away on July 18th, 2024, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Saskatchewan on August 12th, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Kris Skaarland and Theresa (Aadland) Olson-Skaarland.
In her early years, Marie was a data-entry operator at the Prince Rupert Fishermen’s Cooperative. After moving to Nova Scotia in 1969, she soon became a childcare provider. Marie cherished her role as a childcare provider, pouring her heart into nurturing and guiding many children throughout her lifetime. Her warmth left a mark on the lives she touched. Marie’s strong relationship with faith and Jesus was a guiding light that shaped every aspect of her life. She attended the Overton Faith Memorial Baptist Church for the better part of fifty years, where she formed many strong and lasting friendships that she cherished immensely.
She is survived by her son, Bryan Skaarland, Overton; grandson, Jason Murphy (Chelsea Berry), Hebron; granddaughter, Mandy (Drew) Jackson, Overton; great grandchildren, Forrest and Harrison Murphy: Emma Jackson; sister-in-law, Hazel Olson; nephew, Kenn Olson, and niece, Georgene (Ted) Nash; and special friends, Merle and James Fevens and Georgia McKinnon who provided endless support and care for her. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Wendy Skaarland, and her brothers Gordon, Oliver and Kenneth Olson.
We would also like to thank the VON and Home Care for the many caregivers who cared for Marie, as well as the staff and nurses at Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
A Memorial Service will be held on August 13th,2024 at 11:00 a.m. from the Ritchie Memorial Chapel with interment in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Rev. Tim Turpin officiating. The family would like to invite you to a reception following the interment at Glo Estates, Grove Rd. Family flowers only, in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Faith Memorial Baptist Church or Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund.
