Obituary of Dorothy Cameron
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Dorothy, with family by her side. She was a true angel on earth; kind, generous and gentle, with a great smile and laugh. She was the sunshine in the life of many, bringing joy, laughter, care, gifts, and love.
After graduating Westville high school, Dorothy became a Registered Nurse. This year she celebrated her 50th nursing anniversary from St. Martha’s. She worked for nearly 47 years, spending most of her time as a maternity & pediatric nurse at the Aberdeen Hospital. She made a lasting connection with everyone in the workplace, including the families she served. She was part of countless babies entering the world and was a comforting hand to so many – a true Florence Nightingale.
Those who knew her would say she was the best baker, always ready and willing to make you a meal, hem your pants, take away your burdens and warm your heart. Her love and innate musical abilities were passed onto her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Dorothy was very active in her children’s activities and interests, including the Dunvegan Girls Pipe Band. From the time the kids were little, she made clothes, bedding, costumes, dresses, cakes and cookies, etc. etc. etc.
Grandchildren had a special place in Dorothy’s life. She was always ready and eager to spoil them, spend time with them, in Calgary and here at home.
It was only four years ago that Dorothy retired from her rich nursing career to help care for grandchildren and take a little time for herself. Dorothy loved to share a meal and play a hand of crib with family and friends. She was a member of the Northumberland Quilt Guild with sister-n-law Jeanette; as she always had a talent for handmade crafts and a love for sewing. She also joined the Ukelele group in recent years and enjoyed playing around the community.
Dorothy is remembered dearly by her husband Bob of 49 years; children Bobbie, Susie (Greg), and Heather (Rodger); grandchildren Keighley and Andrew; sister Jean Hale; brother and sister-in-law George and Jeanette Cameron; several nieces, nephews, and special cousin Donna and her Williams step grandchildren in Ontario.
She was predeceased by parents Bessie (Workman) and Alex Landsburg; parents-in-law Willard and Lexie (Taylor) Cameron; aunt Hattie, cousin Jean and Carmen Mercadante of the Boston states; brother-in-law Tom Hale; and furry friends Whiskey, Sabre & Piper.
The family would like to acknowledge the special care she received at the Aberdeen Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Palliative Care, or a charity of your choice.
Visitations will be held at Eagles Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 2nd from 2-4pm, and 6-8pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Eagles Funeral Home on Tuesday Oct. 3rd at 2pm. Reception to follow at St. Paul’s United Church in Westville. The service will be streamed live and may be watched by clicking on the following link: www.youtube.com/live/zSPfZYaAGOo?
