Mildred’s Obituary
NEWELL, Mildred Emilie – age 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2024 in The Meadows Home For Special Care. Born in Sluice Point, she was a daughter of the late Fredrick and Gertude (Bourque) Burke.
Mildred was a home maker for most of her life, but did find the time to work here and there at different things while raising a family. She did work in a fish plant for a short time, but also worked at home selling Avon, Tupperware, and Princess House. You may remember her homemade soaps that she loved to make and sell at markets, Millie’s Soaps. She also volunteered when she could and did so for the Ladies Axillary in Wedgeport. Mildred was an amazing cook and baker. Everything she made was made from scratch and made with love. She made sure the house was always full of cookies, pies and different breads. No one left the house hungry. She had a little sense of humor and was teased by her husband Joseph, for her gift of gab. She loved to talk, and would talk to anyone, turning strangers into friends in no time. She often went to dances at the Legion, and in her spare moments she enjoyed playing cards or putting together a puzzle or reading a true story before bed. She was one of a kind, and will be missed by all who knew her.
Mildred is survived by her children, Muriel (Tim) LeBlanc and their children, Luc, Joseph and grandson Brantley; Gerald (Barbara) Cottreau and their children Crystal, Tiffany, Blake, Susan, Nadine and grandchildren, Grey, Hannah, Brooke and Hazely; Roland (Jeanne) Cottreau, and their children Nicholas and Matthew; and her sister, Marjorie (the late Vernon) Cottreau.
Besides her parents, Mildred is predeceased by her husband and father of her children, Joseph Guillame Cottreau; as well as her second husband, Bill Newell.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Wedgeport. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 4th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Wedgeport Funeral Home.
