Bob”s Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joseph Robert “Bob” LeFave. Bob died peacefully at home in Yarmouth, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born in Argyle Sound, July 4th 1937, to Edward and Beatrice (Murphy) LeFave.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine whom he adored; his children, Lynn (David) Boudreau, Sharon Buchanan, Rick (Shannon) Fougere, Gena (Doug) Wright, Benji (Barb) Fougere, Wendy LeFave, and Rod (Lori) Fougere. He will be sadly missed by his grand children, Craig (Jennifer), Vicki (Chris), Dylan, Rhys, Devin, Brady, Garth, Aaron, Jeremiah, Sydney and Carah. He was a great grandfather, to Laura, Jordon, Morgan and Amelia; and great great grandfather, to Dilynn and Nate. He is the uncle to many nieces and nephews who will always hold special memories. He will be missed by his loving sister, Bernice Boudreau and brother, Edward (Ed) LeFave. Bob is predeceased by brothers, Edmond, Rami and Lawrence, grandsons Kevin and Joey.
During his early years he fished lobster with his father, which instilled in him his love of the sea. He then enlisted in the Canadian Army, the Regiment Canadian Guards in 1954 serving for three years. Returning to Yarmouth he once again fished with his father for a short period of time. He missed the camaraderie the military offered and re-enlisted in the Royal Highlands Regiment of Canada (Black Watch) serving a tour of duty in Germany and Canada until 1970 when the regiment was disbanded and moved to the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR). Serving with the RCR, he was deployed to Germany where his outstanding commitment to his regiment was recognized and promoted to Master Warrant Officer. During his military career he served three tours of duty to Cyprus on UN duty during the conflict on the island. He served during the FLQ crisis in the fall of 1970 under the War Measures Act. After serving for 35 years of honourable service he retired to a home in Port Maitland, NS.
He was a 4th degree knight with the Knights of Columbus, serving with distinction in all capacity. He was a member of the Port Maitland Royal Canadian Legion Branch 143 until it closed in 2015, when he then joined the Wedgeport Legion Branch 155. He was a mentor to many and always available in time of need. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. His love for family will remain forever.
His love of the outdoors included spending many summers camping in Kejimkujik (Keji) NS which allowed many family members to share in the commitment he had with the environment and nature surrounding him. His granddaughters spent many summers with him and Elaine, which was a tremendous source of pride for him. Bob and Elaine were Hosts for many years and are on the “Walk of Fame”. The talks around the campfire were a time of enjoyment and happiness. He loved family and all the events surrounding them. Christmas was his favourite time of year when family would open their gifts from him. During retirement Elaine and him travelled extensively. These included a road trip across Canada, a train trip across Canada, trips to Europe and many other places and adventures.
He worked with EMO in Yarmouth for a number of years and was a volunteer with the Port Maitland Fire Department for 28 years. He loved the sea and would often visit the local wharfs checking out the new and refurbished boat builds. When hunting season came along you could find him in the woods where you could enjoy the best cup of tea and sandwich! He was an avid carpenter who designed and built a number of lasting items. He could often be found with a pencil behind his ear and measuring tape in hand ready for the next project. He spent many hours with his little carpentry company “RC” at St. Ambrose Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. A visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth with prayers at 7 p.m. There will also be a Legion Service at 6:30 p.m. and a KofC Service following. A special thank you to all the family, friends and neighbours who visited, called, offered up prayers, brought food, hugs and comfort to the family.
