Higgins, E. Joyce – 1937-2024. Joyce passed away peacefully on March 17, 2024 in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital.
Born in South Branch, she was a daughter of the late George and Sadie (Chaplin) Purdy.
Joyce was a dedicated teacher spending 32 years working with young children. For much of her career, she taught Grade Primary at Caldwell Road Elementary. Upon retirement, Joyce and Eric moved to the Musquodoboit Valley where they became very involved in many activities. They were avid gardeners and grew beautiful dahlias each summer. In their spare time, they could often be seen twirling on the dance floor.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Colleen (Collin) Hillier; daughter-in-law, Janice. Joyce will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Nathan (Nicole), Brittany, Melanie (Matt), Branden (Vicky), Logan and Keagen. She is also survived by brothers, Bernard (Yvonne), Walter (Heather); sisters, Elaine (Maurice) Nelson, Cathy Gilby (Bryan) Druhan; sister-in-law, Judy; many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband and soul mate, Eric; and by her loving son, Walter. She was also predeceased by brothers, Ivan, Harold and Russell.
In keeping with Joyce’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A family graveside service will be held at a later date. In her memory, Joyce would like you to do something special for someone you care about.
