Marty’s Obituary
Marty Hudson Jollimore, 83, of River John, Nova Scotia passed away surrounded by family on October 3, 2024, at Willow Lodge in Tatamagouche. Marty was born on August 10, 1941, in Paisley, Scotland to Martha Hudson and Robert Gordon.
Marty attended Craigielea Primary School and Camphill Secondary School in Paisley before going on to study at Rowanbank Commercial College. After some time working as a Technical Assistant for a technical instrument manufacturer, Marty decided to follow in the footsteps of some of her older sisters and move to Toronto, Canada.
Upon landing in Toronto, Marty spent the early 1960s working numerous jobs including time as a Long-Distance Telephone Operator with Bell Canada and later as a Keypunch Operator for A.B. Dick Co., Campbell’s Soup and Polaroid Corp.
During the mid-sixties Marty met and married her soulmate, Perry Jollimore. Through the sixties and seventies in Toronto, their family grew with three children; Michael (Lisa) Jollimore, Candace (James) Pountney and Shane (Connie) Jollimore. In the late seventies, Perry convinced Marty to move the family to his hometown of River John, Nova Scotia.
After moving to Nova Scotia and adding another child to the fold; Rob (Karlie) Jollimore, Marty traded her office attire for much more casual workplaces. After running the Village Variety store in River John during the late seventies, Marty spent the eighties and nineties working at a variety of jobs including planting trees, picking strawberries, making Christmas wreaths, working at fish plants and as a caregiver for an elderly neighbour. Although working conditions during this time weren’t always great and jobs were scarce, Marty had a strong sense of fairness and didn’t take any guff in the workplace. During her career she was always ready to stick up for herself or a coworker who couldn’t. This spirit led her to a position as a union representative at one workplace that she always looked back on fondly.
Marty loved spending time in her flower gardens, and planting trees randomly around the home she built with Perry. She also enjoyed bowling, attending St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years, and watching endless episodes of Coronation Street.
Marty was a loving wife and mother, a loyal friend and a fierce defender of those she held near and dear. She will be dearly missed by her family, including her grandchildren, Brett, Keiran, Lily, Everleigh and Kingston.
Marty was predeceased by her loving husband Perry, to whom she was married for 51 years. She was also predeceased by her brother Andrew, sisters Barbara (Jim) Robertson and Ann (Alan) Bennett. She is survived by sisters, Margaret (Frank) Thomson and Georgina (Emil) Muench.
A special thank you to the staff of the Willow Lodge and the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital for their loving care and compassion for Marty over the years.
A Service will be held at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in River John starting at 10:30 am on Saturday October 19th, to celebrate Marty’s life. Memorial donations may be made in Marty’s name to the Willow Lodge. Arrangements are under the direction of Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche.
