MACDONALD, Jacqueline Shirley
Middle River
We regret to announce the passing of Jacqueline Shirley MacDonald on September 19, 2024, in the Victoria Co. Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, NS.
Born in Little Narrows on October 23, 1936, Jacqueline was the daughter of the late John W. and Anne Elizabeth (MacDonald) Fownes.
She began school at South Side Baddeck and was in the first graduating class of Baddeck Rural High School in 1954. The following year she attended Nova Scotia Normal College, graduating with her Superior First Rank Diploma. She continued studies at St. F.X. University, Sydney and other courses provided by the Nova Scotia Department of Education. In addition to her educational studies, in 2006 she received certification as a Lay Pastoral Counselor.
Jacqueline’s first teaching position was at Blackett’s Lake, Cape Breton Co. and in 1992 she retired from Baddeck Consolidated School. She also contributed to the lives of young people as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent, and Vacation Bible School teacher. Over the years, she was also a valued member of many community groups and organizations both here in Nova Scotia and in Roxbury, Massachusetts.
Many years of dedication to the teaching profession saw Jacqueline take valuable time to travel extensively throughout many parts of the world. This global perspective added a great deal to her teaching and provided many memorable experiences for her students when she would share pictures and recount events with them.
Unpretentious, she lived a Christian Life with modesty, love, and compassion.
Jacqueline is survived by her brother Leo (Joan), sister-in-law Charlotte, nieces and nephews and many cherished friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Betty and John, her husband Fraser, brothers Frankie, Bernie, and Donnie, sisters Nancy and Maureen, sister-in-law Judy, brothers-in-law Robert Tellum and Paul Sr. Zahner.
