WALLACE, Alma “Mae” – age 98 of West St. Andrews, passed away peacefully on May 21st, 2024, in The Mira, Truro. Born in Earltown, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Christine (Matheson) Sutherland.
Mae received her teaching education from the Normal College in Truro and taught for several years in one-room schoolhouses. She met her husband, Donnie, while teaching. Mae was a member of the West St. Andrews Ladies Aid. She was also a choir member and volunteered for the local community hall for many years. Mae enjoyed quilting, knitting and puzzles. She liked playing cards and even got a 28 hand in cribbage.
Mae is survived by her daughters, Alma, Bonnie, Betty (Don); grandchildren, Ian (Tara), Heather (Robert), Angie, Amy (Stephen), Brandy (Eric), Jody (Micheal); 8 great grandchildren; sister, Ruth; brother, Alwyn.
Besides her parents, Mae was predeceased by her husband Donald; sister, Margie.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held from 10 am – 10:45 am on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. A funeral service will follow in the same location immediately after the visitation at 11 am. Rev. Natalie Buchanan-Rutherford officiating. A private interment will follow.
Donations in Mae’s memory may be made to Pine Grove Cemetery, 2840 Alton Road, Stewiacke East, NS B0N 2J0.
