IRWIN, Brian David – age 82, passed away on Monday August 21st, 2023, at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Alness Scotland, he was a son of the late David and Ishbel (Mackay) Irwin.
Brian and his young family left Scotland to find work in Canada in 1966. Brian worked for 35 years as an oceanographer at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. He was a hobby farmer and as the years went by his garden became his main passion and he shared much of his crops with local food banks receiving awards for the volume of donations he gave. Brian was a voracious reader and had very diverse interests in what he read. Brian and Fiona loved to travel and explore the world together and went to many different places. He was proud of his Scottish heritage and passed this on to his children. He loved his many animals over the years cats or dogs and his current dog Zoe misses him immensely.
Brian is survived by his wife Fiona (Thomson) of 63 years, his children David (Min Wang), Kevin (Anne Murray) and Sharon (Terry Stevenson deceased) his grandchildren Sarah and Micheal Irwin, Trevor, Andrew (Zeena Rashid) and Melanie Irwin, Calan, Eric and Ryan Stevenson, and his brothers Roger and Patrick and his Aunt Sena Mackay in Scotland.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Homes, Shubenacadie and Elmsdale.
A Celebration of Life for Brian will be held from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday, May 19th, 2024, at Tidal Bore Rafting, 12215 Highway 215, Urbania, Nova Scotia, B0N 2H0, Cottage Number 12.
