In Loving Memory
Marie Deliah Dugas
October 3, 1936 – January 8, 2024
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Deliah Dugas, age 87, of West Arichat, Nova Scotia, formerly of Samson’s Cove, that occurred at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home surrounded by family. Delia was the daughter of the late Rose Marie (Samson) and Thomas T. Martell. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Leon J. Dugas; twin sisters, Catherine and Jeanne, and sister, Jeanne D’Arc; brothers, Théophile, Amedée, Cyril, and Rudolph; nephews, Francis and Welby; and grand-nephew, Joel.
Delia is survived by her children, Howard Dugas (West Arichat), Carol Anne (Paul) LeBlanc (Chéticamp), and Paulette (Stanley) Marchand (Louisdale); sister, Therese; brothers, Leon (Anne) and Donnie (Darlene); sister-in-law, Doris; brother-in-law, Carl; grandchildren, Alana (Curt), Dana (Cody), Jenna, Gillian (Kyle); step-grandchildren, Shannon (George), Jonathan (Julia), and Jordan (Brittany); great-grandchildren, Emerie, Dax, and Elliotte; step-great-grandchildren, Brooke, Blaze, Ayla, Aubree, Gray, and Jamie; and many nieces and nephews.
Mom loved music, dancing, playing bingo, playing cards, and gambling ($20 limit). She sure could dance up a storm. She enjoyed going on trips with family and friends whether it was by car, boat, bus, train, or plane. She even travelled to Calgary, Alberta and Nanaimo, British Columbia where she had a blast. Mom completed her GED and worked at the local Co-op for several years. She was a member of the CWL, the Isle Madame New Horizons Seniors Club, and the Fleur de Lis Seniors Club. Mom was the most down to earth person that anyone could come across. She did with what she had, never complained, and had no desire for riches nor fame. Above all, her true passion was helping others and cooking for everyone, whether they were hungry or already full. What was most difficult for mom was when she lost her true purpose of helping others and had to leave her home; that is when her health began to decline. “Dieu de Dieu” is gone but our wonderful memories of how funny, foxy, witty, and kind she was will last forever.
A special thank you to Howard and Sandi for taking care of mom for 3.5 years before she moved to the nursing home, to Aunt Doris and Uncle Rudolph for visiting mom faithfully, and to all her siblings for their continuous love and support over the years. Thank you to Dr. Collins, Dr. Okeke, and all the amazing staff of the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home for their special care and kindness throughout mom’s stay. God bless you all.
There will be no visitation. Condolences can be sent in person, by phone, or private message to any member of the family or www.haverstocks.com
The funeral/celebration of life will be held at a later date in the spring. Charitable donations can be made to local foodbanks in her memory. Mom would never have let anyone go hungry.
Love you mom. Until we dance again.
