Douglas Cecil Letcher, age 74, passed away Monday May 26,2024 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst. Born in Truro, he was the son of the late Lorne Letcher and Maurine Power. Doug, as he was known, by many, was the loving husband of Alexis (Thompson) Letcher for 44 years. He lived a full and active life. In his younger years he worked at the family business, Letcher’s Garage, GM Dealership, Springhill, in the Sales Department. Other places he worked includes Manager at the A&W, Amherst, Guard at Dorchester Penitentiary and Dry Wall work for a carpenter. He worked several years as second class Stationary Engineer at Oxford Frozen Foods. Doug lived a life of prayer and service to God and was a deacon and choir member at Little River Baptist Church. He was a member of Oxford Area Men’s Choir and involved in New Life For Jesus. He enjoyed motorcycling and was a member of Christian Motorcyclists Association, Defenders Chapter 11, Amherst and Atlantic Sport Touring Riders Association. He was a member of Cumberland Frontiersmen. He was a 4 th degree black belt in Uechi Ryu Karate and on team Fury Power Lifting. Doug enjoyed life, spending time with family and friends, carpentry around the house, leather crafts, canoeing and a avid boater. He was a kind caring man known for his generosity toward others through his life. He was an inspiration to many throughout his years with Parkinson’s. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Alexis (Thompson) Letcher; cousins, Bonnie Whittle, Springhill; Brad Jewkes, Truro; sisters, Helena (Dan) Roan, Scotch Creek, BC; Terri (Tim) Kocher, Kamloops, BC; brother, Mike (Cindy) Chiasson, Vernon, BC; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by father, Lorne Letcher; mother, Maurine Power; mother-in-law, Bonnie (Mortimer) Letcher; brother, Robert Chiasson; cousin, Tod Jewkes. Arrangements have been made under the care and guidance of MacDiarmid’s Funeral. Home. Visitation will be from 2-3 pm, followed by funeral service at 3 pm Saturday June 8, 2024 in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, officiated by Malcolm Read, National Evangelist CMA and Pastor Chris Greer. Interment to follow in Hillside Cemetery. Donations in memory of Doug may be made to Little River Baptist Church or charity of choice.
