It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mom, sister, and friend, Lillian Theresa White. Born June 9, 1936 to the late Duncan and Gertrude (nee Cummings) MacDougall, Lillian grew up in New Waterford with her sister Catherine (Roach) McPhee.
Lillian met her first love Victor Shea in 1958, and was married on June 13, 1959 in St. John, NB. Lillian and Victor, along with their four children, moved to Prince George, B.C. in the late 60’s. Lillian was employed as head housekeeper at the Downtowner Motel and later at the Connaught Motor Inn. She flawlessly managed operations and encountered a multitude of fascinating individuals, accumulating captivating stories in which she loved to share with others.
In the late 1980’s, Lillian and Victor moved to Langley, B.C. where they enjoyed retirement together. When Victor passed in 1996, Lillian decided to move back to Cape Breton where she lived with her sister Catherine for a few years. It was in New Waterford where in 1999 she met, and eventually married her second love, the late Alex White.
Lilly was known for her baking, especially her chocolate chip cookies, cooking, sewing, quilting, her love of dancing and singing. Known as one of the ‘Golden Girls’ along with her friends Cathy Chaisson and the late Greta Kearney, her social life was unmatched. Together, they enjoyed going out for dinners and never missed a pensioner’s dance.
Lillian is survived by her sister Catherine (Roach) McPhee; sons David (Garry), and Brian; daughters Cathy (Steve) and Karen; grandchildren Sarah, Tyler, Sarena, Madison, Justin, and Rebecca as well as 18 great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn her passing are her step children Paula (Larry), David (Ginny), Bruce (Tina), Robert, Jay (Brian), and several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. As well as her nieces Janet and Michelle, and nephews Joseph, Blair, Glen, and Sheldon.
We would like to thank Dr. Steven Hall and all of the wonderful staff of Soldiers Cove at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, for making Lilly’s stay enjoyable and as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre of the Regional hospital.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and guidance of McLellan Funeral Home 3188 Plummer Ave. New Waterford, NS, where a Funeral Service will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday February 29th with Fr.
