Obituary of John Albert Kay
John Albert Kay, 85, Trenton, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, September 25, 2024 in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow.
Born in Springville, Pictou County, he was a son of the late Albert Edward and Edith Cavell (Taylor) Kay. Early in his early career, John enjoyed his training and brief service in the Canadian Army (Signalman). He was a skilled electronics technician and worked at Central Amusement Co. Ltd for approximately 37 years before his retirement. He was a stand-up guy, and a good friend, who would always lend an ear and try to help you in any way he could. A devoted husband for 39 years, John cared deeply for his wife Marion.
John will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He was the kind of man that would tip the guy at the grocery store for helping him carry his bags to the car. You could always count on John to drive you to your next appointment, buy you supper, or come to your rescue if you ran out of gas at midnight with a load of bricks on your truck while crossing the Trenton connector.
John was a man of few words, but a lot of sighs. He was tough; never had a cold in 80 years. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, listening to the scanner, and watching a good hockey game. John had class. In early years, he was known for his nice cars which were always well-maintained. For some reason John waited until he was about 80 before trying pizza, and so we were all relieved that he got to try Sam’s in Trenton.
John faced his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer with courage and fought an inspiring battle until the end. Reflecting on life, John said that it’s about joy and happiness if you can find it, and being fair with people.
Surviving are his wife, Marion Kay, Trenton; sister, Alice (Len) Richards, Loch Broom; brother, Peter (Gail) Kay, Stellarton; stepdaughters, Christine LeBlanc, New Glasgow; Barbara (Michael) Campbell, Waterville; Maine; sisters-in-law; Katherine Kay, Stellarton; Tricia Clarke, Burlington, Ont.; brother-in-law, Gerald Lockhart, Scotch Hill; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Betty Fraser and Jean (Gerald) Lockhart; brothers, Michael Clarke and G. Allan Kay.
We, John’s family, would like to thank the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care team for their compassion and care over the past few months.
Donations may be made in John’s memory to the Pictou County Palliative Care Society .
In keeping with John’s wishes, his family will celebrate his life privately.
