With broken hearts the family announce the passing of Richard Gallant, 54, AKA Porkchop, of Blue Rocks, on December 19, 2024.
Born in Lunenburg, he was the son of Joseph Gallant and Susan (Tanner) Goodwin and stepson of George Goodwin.
Richard started working when he was young lumping on scallop draggers when they arrived home and when he was of age went to sea himself. He worked for many different companies – National Sea Products, Clearwater and inshore scalloping and lobstering. He didn’t always work at sea. He eventually got a few land jobs doing a variety of things like lawn care and working at Stelia. He ended his work life back at Highliner Foods working in the plant.
Richard is survived by sons, Richard (Blockhouse) and Derrick (Blockhouse); father Joseph Gallant (Italy Cross); stepdad, George Goodwin (Grimm Settlement); brother Todd Tanner (Blue Rocks); nieces and nephew, Heidi McNeil, Crystal, Brittany and Zachery Tanner; former wife Vanessa Marks, along with many cousins and close friends.
Besides his mother, Richard is predeceased by his brother, John.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy 3, Lunenburg. Cremation has taken place. Interment will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations given to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home in support of funeral expenses or to a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
