On May 16, 2024, our beautiful mom decided to wish her husband a happy birthday in person, and made her journey to him in heaven.
Leone “Onie” Wilkie was a gem to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Born on October 20, 1931 in Kingsburg, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of Leda Mosher (Zinck) and Howard Mosher.
Onie was a feisty, funny, generous and wonderful woman who held nothing back. She would do anything for family, especially her grandchildren, who could always convince her to do the things she thought weren’t appropriate for a lady in her 90’s (even if it was getting on an ATV).
Onie loved her “card girls” dearly, and enjoyed playing auction 45’s with them twice a week. People always got a new perspective of Gramma when they watched her play cards.
Onie was always a hard worker who loved the outdoors. As a girl, she was tasked with caring for her mother, as well as taking on many of the farm chores. As a young woman, Onie worked at National Sea in Lunenburg. After her daughters were born, she worked at Glady’s canteen as a cook (even though she hated cooking in her later years!). Before moving to their final home in Spectacle Lakes, Onie could always be found in her large vegetable garden, or maintaining their Kingsburg property.
Onie is survived by her two daughters Marsha (Stephen Veinot) Risser, and Marlene (Wayne) Spindler. Son in law, Kevin Risser. Grandchildren Angie (Steven) Robar, Nicole (Wayne) Jensen, Kris Ann (Jeff) Keizer, Michael (Sandy) Spindler, and Stephanie (Michael) McIntosh. Great grandchildren Jacob, Nathan, Janelle, Ryan, Sydney, Jordan, Ava, Blaire, Michael, Samuel, Lizzie & Allie, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Onie was predeceased by her husband Gilbert “Gibbie” Wilkie, sister Virginia Hann, brother Goodwin Mosher, and nephew (brother by heart) Lamonte “Monty” Mosher.
Memorial service will be held at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2024. Rev. Tom Summers officiating. Interment to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Kingsburg.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lakeview Cemetery
