Light and love, goodness and kindness, honesty and friendship – these are just a few of the gifts we have received through the life of Chris James Beck who passed into peace and light surrounded by the love of his family at home on October 7, 2024.
The much-loved son of Spencer and June (Zwicker) Beck, Chris grew up in Auburndale and was shaped into a thoughtful, kind and genuinely good man by following their examples. He was a model son, showing them love, compassion and devotion in all he did. He attended Park View Education Centre where he flashed his smile wider than the ocean and captured the heart of a girl from Black Rocks, Cindy Tanner, who would one day become his wife of 30 years. After studying to become an Electronics Engineering Technician at RCC in Toronto, Chris returned to Lunenburg County where he started a dedicated career at Eastern Office Supplies for more than 3 decades. Most recently, he was so proud to fish alongside his son, Nathaniel, aboard the “Cass and Girls”. A learning and bonding experience, Chris cherished his time with Than on the shore and on the sea. Always eager to help, he excelled in these new tasks, from preparing the buoys and ropes, hauling the traps and to everything in between. Chris was a talented soccer player and made many friends on the pitch. He played the game in the same way he lived his life – supportive, dependable, hard-working and with a smile on his face. His circle of friends grew even larger as he was a faithful supporter of Than and Maddie’s own sporting adventures. His true happiness shone best when surrounded by his family whom he loved with all his heart.
His love story of 40 years with Cindy and his devotion to her as his partner for life never wavered. Together, they welcomed Nathaniel (1995) and Madison (2001) and built a strong, loving family in the little house on the Lilydale hill. As a father, he was the biggest cheerleader, the best role model and a solid rock of dependability and love. Chris was tremendously proud of the man and father Than has become. He loved watching Than interact with his girls and to see that he looks at them with such love in his eyes. Chris was also fiercely proud of Madison, her academic and sports accomplishments, and of the strong, independent woman she is. He was eager to support her hockey endeavors and spent many hours traveling sometimes great distances to spend time with her and watch her between the pipes. The role of grandfather was one that brought him immense joy. As “Bips” to sweet grand-daughter’s Emma and Dakota, he loved spending time with them and watching them develop into unique and loving little girls. Chris was a strong man of character – he leaves a legacy of family-first, friendship, goodness and integrity. His quiet demeanor, positive attitude and kindness toward everyone he met have left a lasting impression on us all.
He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by wife Cindy, son, Nathaniel, daughter-in-law Cassie, grandchildren Emma and Dakota, daughter Madison, sister Kathy Beck (Andrew Zwicker), parents-in-law Wayne and Linda Tanner, and brother-in-law Dwayne Tanner (Chandelle Webber).
