Dad passed away quietly in his sleep November 19, 2024, eight days after his ninety-sixth birthday and just six weeks after Mom passed away. Born November 11, 1928, the son of Arthur and Alicia (Gibbons) Fredericks, the fourth of twelve children.
Dad was born and lived in Bedford until moving to their dream cottage/retirement home in Mount Uniacke in 1982. Dad started his work life as a projectionist at the old Bedford theater before his career in the insurance industry. He founded Ray F Fredericks Insurance Ltd. in 1963, a business that still bears his name to this day. He and Mom worked together in the business for many years. Upon retirement, gardening became one of his greatest hobbies. Everyone who visited the lake went home with more vegetables than they ever needed, and the garden got bigger each year. Dad was an avid outdoorsman, hunting and fishing were a big part of his life with multiple trips to Newfoundland in search of moose and caribou.
Family was everything to Dad, he loved nothing more than having a house full of kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, with Mom at his side. Dad married Honey (Kathryn) Adams on September 26,1953 and lived a life full of love and traveling adventures for many decades. Always a big supporter of the community, Dad sat on the Bedford Board of Trade and was a member of the Bedford Lions Club for fifty-seven years.
Surviving are children: Kirk (Debbie), Peter (Pam), and Steven (Elaine). Grandchildren: Robin, Dan, Shanna, Jim, Mark, Jill, Michelle, Kathryn, and Kevin, as well as fourteen great grandchildren. Also survived by brothers Wayne, Robbie, and Harvey, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Mom, his parents, and siblings: Irvin, Lorne, Stella Hebb, Bernice Deal, Ralph, Clifford, Gloria Manthorne, and Edward.
A joint funeral for Dad and Mom will be held at Bedford United Church on November 29 at 1:00 with reception to follow. A private family burial will follow at Brookside cemetery.
