Gerald Arthur “Jerry” Rogers
1956-2023
Gerald
Arthur “Jerry” Rogers, 67, of Ross Creek, passed
away after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer on Monday,
October 16, 2023 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by
the love of his family. Born in Wolfville, he was a son of the late T.
Clifton and Evelyn (Blenkhorn) Rogers.
Jerry
was a talented carpenter, starting with Acadia Roofing and then
becoming self-employed for many years. In 1999, he won the Nova Scotia
Home Award for carpentry excellence. Jerry worked for many years in
Alberta and was always spoken very highly of by bosses and colleagues
for his work ethic and craftmanship. Prior to his carpentry days he
worked on Sable Island climbing towers and he often reminisced about
when he was a fisherman off the coast of Vancouver Island.
Outside
of work Jerry was an avid outdoorsman, he had a passion for
snowmobiling and was always ready for a tour with family and friends.
When spring came it was time for casting a line, planting his garden,
going for a dirt road drive and he was always a fan of cracking a cold
one.
Aside
from his many talents and hobbies, Jerry was an exceptional father,
grandfather and brother. He loved spending time with his children,
family and grandchildren, who were his pride and joy and everlasting
comfort in his final days.
Jerry
will be deeply missed by his children, Nicole Rogers, Kentville; Renee
Rogers (Seann), Canning; Brittney Rogers (Brad), Alberta; and Brandon
Rogers (Amanda), Ross Creek; siblings, Anne Rogers, New Minas; Judy
King, Forest, Ontario; Roy Rogers, Kentville; Dot (Vance) Sweet, South
Alton; Emily (Bruce) Cunningham, Calmar, Alberta; Robert Rogers,
Kingston; and Brad Rogers, Kentville; beloved grandchildren, Drennan,
Drake, Addison, Mateo, London, Landon, Codi and Sunni; mother of his
children, Barbara Hewey; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and
many close friends both near and far.
In
addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Jared Rogers;
brothers, Tom, Jimmy and Donnie Rogers; and sister, Elizabeth
Simpson.
Cremation has taken place and there
will be no visitation or funeral service. In keeping with
Jerry’s wishes, a Celebration of his life will be held at a
later date to be announced. Donations in memory may be made to the
Jimmy Rogers Memorial Hockey Tournament (e-transfers accepted by keddydawn@gmail.com). Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family
Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
