Obituary of Anne Matilda “Tillie” (MacIntyre) MacMillan, Lingan
It is with profound sadness that the MacMillan and MacIntyre families announce the death of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Anne Matilda (MacIntyre) MacMillan, affectionately known as Tillie. After a short but courageous battle with leukemia, Tillie died peacefully on September 17, 2024, surrounded by family at the VG Hospital in Halifax.
Tillie was born on July 22, 1954, in New Waterford, the daughter of Christina “Tuddy” (MacPherson) and the late, Boyd MacIntyre. She was a faithful member of St. Agnes, St. Michael’s, St. Joseph’s (Lingan) and most recently, St. Leonard’s Parish. After graduating from BEC, Tillie completed the LPN program and dedicated 41 years caring for others at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. She hung up her nursing cap in 2015 and fully enjoyed retirement with her family.
On August 14, 1981, Tillie married the love of her life, Bart. He doted on his “Dear” for 43 years up until she took her last breath. Tillie’s proudest accomplishments were the two gentlemen that she and Bart raised, David & Daniel; and the joy of her life, her granddaughter, Rae.
In her spare time, Tillie enjoyed playing and organizing darts, as well as bingo, shopping, reading, traveling and playing games at family gatherings. Family was everything to her. Tillie was spirited, kind and had the “gift of gab”.
Tillie is survived by her husband, children, granddaughter and mother, as well as, her siblings in New Waterford; Hughie (Carol Ann) MacIntyre, Margie Hillier, Mickey (Sharon) MacIntyre, Karen MacIntyre in Toronto; her aunts, Kaye Handrahan, Rosie (Bussy) MacMullin, Coleen MacPherson, and Flora Beaton; her in-laws, Walter (Mary Alice) MacMillan, Doreen (the late Fred) Sponagle, Greg (Mary Jane) MacMillan and her numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tillie was predeceased by her father, Boyd; her brother, Tony; her brother-in-law, Harry Hillier; her grandparents, Hugh Malcolm and Christena MacIntyre and Anthony and Margaret MacPherson; her in-laws, Theresa and Joe MacMillan, Mary MacMillan and Frankie and Phyllis MacMillan; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
We wish to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for Tillie during her recent illness, at the Regional Hospital and the VG Hospital, particularly floors 8A and ICU 3A. Thank you to everyone who so generously donated to the GoFundMe and who attended the Tunes for Tillie benefit. Thank you also for the visits, phone calls and messages of support both before and after Tillie’s passing. It meant the world to Tillie and her family to see and feel how much she was loved. It will never be forgotten and will provide comfort to us for years to come.
Visitation will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St, New Waterford on Monday, September 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, September 24 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, 3180 Mount Carmel Ave., with Fr. Godwin Obike presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s cemetery, Lingan, with a recption to follow at the K.O.C., New Waterford.
